The Dongfeng TE8P EV truck is defined by its energy system: a CATL LFP pack of 600 kWh, a LvKong 510 kW motor and charging built for mining and heavy haul in Chile. This technical note explains the battery and charging architecture in plain terms, from cell chemistry to depot power design.
LFP (lithium iron phosphate) is the right choice for export EV trucks: it tolerates heat, survives partial charging and avoids cobalt and nickel. The 600 kWh pack in the Dongfeng TE8P holds capacity in copper mining and lithium-triangle corridors where NMC packs would degrade faster, and it is safe under puncture thanks to a stable crystal structure.
Cell-to-pack construction removes the intermediate module frame, improving volumetric efficiency and crash resistance. For a {m['config']} EV truck that means more usable energy in the same footprint, which is why the {m['name']} hits {m['rng']} km without an oversized pack.
For Chile, the pack uses liquid cooling and heating so cells stay in the 15-35 °C sweet spot. That protects the 8-year / 4,500-cycle warranty and keeps the 250 km range honest through summer. IP67 sealing shrugs off dust and wash-down on mining and heavy haul, and the coolant loop is isolated from the cabin air for safety.
The swap variant carries a standardized LFP pack exchanged at a swap cabinet in 5-6 minutes - faster than diesel refuelling. It decouples vehicle cost from battery cost, letting fleets in Chile buy the EV truck at a lower price and pay per swap or via a battery-leasing plan. For mining and heavy haul where every minute of downtime costs money, that swap speed is the headline feature.
Dongfeng warrants the pack for 8 years or 4,500 full-equivalent cycles. At typical mining and heavy haul duty that is a decade of service, after which the pack still holds 70-80% capacity for second-life stationary storage. This longevity underpins the $130,000-$160,000 FOB resale value and makes battery leasing a bankable product.
Retired packs from the {m['name']} move into solar buffer and grid storage, extending value past the truck's life. HV safety is certified to UN R100 with automatic contactor drop, insulation monitoring and IP67 sealing, so depot crews in {cn} work the EV truck under the same lock-out-tag-out discipline as any industrial equipment.

Plan depot power around your daily km: a 250 km route needs roughly one full 600 kWh charge per vehicle per day. A 360 kW cabinet serves several Dongfeng TE8P units overnight; add solar or off-peak tariffs to push energy cost to cents per km. Charging an electric truck is a depot discipline, not a public-network gamble. A 528 kWh pack working a 330 km day typically returns with 25 to 35 percent in reserve, so overnight demand is about 317 kWh per truck. On a 120 kW DC charger the pack climbs from 20 to 80 percent in roughly 158 minutes; on 240 kW that falls to about 79 minutes, which lets two trucks share one charger on staggered shifts.
Size the site transformer for your busiest shift plus 30 percent headroom, keep cable runs under 30 metres to limit voltage drop, and meter each charger separately so energy cost per truck stays visible. In Chile, grid connection lead times of three to nine months are common, so apply for the connection the day you sign the truck order, not the day the ship arrives. Shaanxi Fenghan Trading includes a charger layout drawing and load calculation with every EV truck quotation, so your electrician can price the civil works before the truck lands.
A comparable diesel 6x4 heavy tractor burns about 0.38 litres per kilometre in mixed duty; at $0.95 per litre that is roughly $0.36 per km. The electric equivalent consumes about 1.15 kWh per km fully loaded; at an industrial tariff of $0.10 per kWh the cost is near $0.12 per km, and overnight or solar-coupled charging can push it below $0.08. Over 70,000 km a year the saving is about $17,000 per truck, before any carbon or low-emission-zone benefit.
The gap widens in stop-start duty, where regenerative braking returns 15 to 25 percent of traction energy instead of burning it as brake dust. In Chile, where diesel quality and price both fluctuate, locking in an electricity tariff also removes a major budgeting variable from the fleet P&L.
The TE8P has roughly one moving drivetrain part where a diesel has hundreds: no engine oil, no DPF, no turbocharger, no clutch, no multi-gear transmission service. Scheduled maintenance lands near $0.035 per km against $0.11 per km for a diesel equivalent, a saving of more than $5,000 a year at typical utilisation. Brake pads last two to three times longer because the motor does most of the deceleration.
Uptime matters more than parts cost. Fleet data from Chinese operators running the same e-axle platform shows 96 to 98 percent availability once drivers are trained, versus 92 to 94 percent for diesel trucks of the same age. Keep a small stock of filters, coolant, brake pads and 12V batteries on site; Shaanxi Fenghan Trading quotes a two-year consumables kit with every truck so the first service interval never waits on freight.
Every TE8P pack carries an 8-year or 4,500-cycle warranty with a 70 percent state-of-health guarantee. At one charge per working day, 4,500 cycles is more than twelve years of service, so the pack is warranted for the entire first ownership period of most fleets. LFP chemistry also tolerates full charges, which removes the 80-percent daily ceiling that NMC operators must manage.
Residual value is the question every CFO asks. Three data points help: LFP packs retain 70 to 80 percent capacity at end of warranty, which supports a second life in stationary storage; diesel residuals in export markets have already started sliding where zero-emission zones are announced; and a truck with a transferable battery warranty simply sells faster. Prudent fleets model 35 to 45 percent residual at year five for an EV truck versus 40 to 50 percent for diesel, then recover the difference through energy savings inside year three.
