The TZ5Y exists for one primary reason: right-hand-drive mining markets. Southern and East African operations — Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, plus Indonesia's mixed road conventions and Australia's mine sites — run RHD. Converting a heavy tipper to RHD is not a steering-wheel swap: pedal box, HVAC ducting, mirror mounts, wiper sweep, door structure and cab reinforcement all change. The TZ5Y is engineered from the factory as RHD, which preserves the ECE R29-03 cab strength certification and keeps the service parts catalogue coherent. The TZ3V serves LHD territories: West and North Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Central Asia and China-standard markets.

A hard-rock operation running 90 km loaded-out cycles, 300 days a year, illustrates the shared economics. A diesel 8x4 in this class burns 45–55 L/100 km in pit duty — call it 50 L average, or USD 34,000–45,000 of fuel per truck per year at typical African mine-gate diesel cost (delivered to site, diesel at mines is always the expensive kind). The electric equivalent consumes roughly 1.7–2.0 kWh/km in heavy pit duty: about 54,000 kWh/year, or USD 4,300–7,600 where the mine can supply power at USD 0.08–0.14/kWh — and many pits now pair haul fleets with dedicated solar. Annual advantage: USD 27,000–38,000 per truck before maintenance savings, which add another USD 5,000–8,000. A 20-truck fleet transition is a USD 640,000–920,000 per year operating swing.
