Not every electrification project starts with a flagship. Many of our industrial clients enter the electric era through the most economical door: the KTH1, our entry-level 8x4 heavy rigid. It exists for operators who want a genuine 31-tonne electric truck — not a van, not a light-duty compromise — at the lowest capital entry point in the Dongfeng heavy range. This review looks at what the KTH1 trades away to reach its price, and what it refuses to compromise on.
| Item | KTH1 specification |

| Motor | LvKong 270 kW rated / 450 kW peak |
| Transmission | 4AMT |
| Charging | GB/T dual-gun; 20–80% in ~40 min |
| Range laden (industrial cycle) | 180–220 km |
| Indicative FOB | USD 85,000–110,000 (body to order) |
The KTH1 reaches its price point by fitting the smaller battery in the family: 264 kWh against the 352 kWh of the KTH2 and 400 kWh of the KTH3 flagship. Everything else stays full-grade:
The 264 kWh pack defines a discipline: daily distances under ~200 km. In practice that captures a large share of heavy rigid work:
Industrial shuttle profile: 150 km/day, 300 days, 45,000 km/year. Diesel 8x4 consumption at 33 L/100 km: 14,850 L — USD 13,000–16,500 at USD 0.90–1.10/L. The KTH1 at roughly 1.2 kWh/km: 54,000 kWh — USD 4,300–5,900 at USD 0.08–0.11/kWh. Maintenance difference adds another USD 3,500–5,000 per year in the electric column's favour. Annual operating advantage: USD 12,000–16,000. Against a purchase premium of roughly USD 40,000 over an equivalent diesel rigid, the KTH1 pays back in year 3 and compounds for the remaining life of the asset — with the CATL pack warranty running the full eight years.
The 8x4 layout carries more body and distributes weight better than a 6x2 at the same GVW, which matters for dense cargo like bagged cement and steel. We build to order: curtainsiders for pallets, steel-mesh cages for scrap and billets, flatbeds with headboards for timber and lengths, and dry boxes for bagged goods. The chassis PTO provisions support tail lifts and side-loaders. For operators wanting the same formula with more range, the KTH2 (352 kWh) and KTH3 (400 kWh, 9.8 m box capability) step up inside the identical family — a KTH1 fleet can grow without retraining drivers or re-specifying chargers.
Fleets electrify successfully by starting on their most predictable route, not their hardest. The KTH1 puts a full-grade 31 t electric truck on that first route at the lowest entry cost in our heavy range, generates the kWh/km data and driver familiarity that de-risk every subsequent purchase, and remains a useful truck even after the fleet grows around it. Several of our largest fleet clients began exactly here — one KTH1 order, one charger, one route — and now run double-digit electric truck fleets across multiple sites.
