Dust Control Goes Electric: Dongfeng KT3F Electric Sprinkler Truck for Municipal and Mine Roads

Dongfeng KT3F 4x2 electric sprinkler truck — a municipal EV truck for road watering and dust suppression

Of all the special-vehicle conversions we export, the sprinkler is the one buyers underestimate longest — then order in batches. A water tanker looks like the humblest truck on any fleet, but its duty cycle is pure electric territory: slow speed, constant pump load, early-morning shifts in residential streets, or all-day crawling along mine haul roads. The Dongfeng KT3F is our 4x2 electric sprinkler built for both of those worlds — municipal road watering and industrial dust suppression — on a CATL 166/200 kWh platform. Here is what it does and who is buying it.

The Duty Cycle That Suits an EV Truck Perfectly

Watering duty is a slow-motion energy story. A sprinkler truck covers 20–40 km/h working speeds, sprays for most of every kilometre, and refills two to four times a shift. That profile breaks a diesel truck three ways and flatters an electric one:

Municipal Applications: The Quiet Dawn Shift

City street watering happens before traffic builds — 04:00 to 08:00 in dense districts. A diesel sprinkler at that hour is a noise complaint on wheels; the KT3F works at conversation volume. Municipal operators report three practical gains:

  1. Extended watering windows — earlier starts and hospital/school-zone access without exemption paperwork.
  2. Visible sustainability — city fleets under air-quality scrutiny show the electorate something tangible; procurement scoring increasingly rewards it.
  3. Dramatically lower running cost — a municipal sprinkler covering 120 km of spraying per day consumes roughly 150–180 kWh including pump: USD 13–20 at typical municipal tariffs, against USD 55–75 of diesel at emerging-market prices. Over 300 days that is USD 12,000–16,000 saved per truck per year.

Industrial Applications: Mines, Ports and Construction

The harder duty is haul-road dust suppression at mines and industrial sites, where dust is both a safety hazard (visibility on haul roads) and a regulatory one (particulate limits near communities). The KT3F's 4x2 format suits lighter duty routes; for the heavy end — highway, port and mine-road scale — the KT7A 6x4 (CATL 232 kWh, 25 t GVW, LvKong 164/308 kW) carries the same formula up in weight class. Between them they cover:

Why We Fitted a Smaller Battery

The KT3F's 166/200 kWh pack is deliberately modest — roughly a third of our mining tippers' capacity. Watering duty simply does not need more: daily distances are short, speeds are low, and the truck returns to depot every night. Right-sizing the battery keeps the FOB price in municipal budget territory (USD 75,000–100,000), keeps payload capacity in the tank rather than the pack, and still covers a full day's spraying. For customers wanting combined sweeping and washing duty, the KT1D sweeper-washer (CATL 232/266 kWh) shares the same electric sanitation platform.

Export Notes

The KT3F ships with municipal documentation packages, tropical or temperate pump and chassis calibration, GB/T charging as standard with CCS2 variants in the KT3F family for relevant markets, and driver training covering pump operation and battery discipline. Municipal buyers in Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East are our fastest-growing segment for this unit — city budgets respond quickly to a truck that cuts fuel and maintenance in half while making the dawn shift inaudible. Batch orders of five to ten units with a single depot charger are the pattern we quote most.
